Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to create a roux.
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
Add the milk and continue to cook, stirring often, until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 4 to 6 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
Use this homemade white pizza base immediately on your pizza dough before adding toppings.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use roasted garlic instead of fresh minced garlic.
You can substitute cream cheese for some of the heavy cream for an even thicker, Alfredo pizza sauce recipe.
Store any leftover white pizza sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop, adding a splash of milk if it thickens too much.
